I made a trip to Bangkok for a conference with my boss. Was just a one day conference with a cocktail the evening before. Had quite a bad experience when I reached the new Suvarnabhumi Airport. First, the airport is very big and long, so it took forever to walk to the immigrations counter. Second, the queues to clear immigration were so long it actually took 2 hours for me! The only reason the queue was moving was because people were leaving the queue to join other queue. Third, the people at the airport limo service told me to leave my luggage there and they would take care of it but in the end they didn't, so I had to walk back and forth to get my luggage into their car MYSELF. Fourth, my stupid driver lost his way and we got caught in the jam so it took 1 1/2 hr to get to the hotel. Imagine, I landed at 3.20pm and I only got to the hotel at 7pm plus.
Luckily my bad luck ended after I reached the hotel. Four Seasons Hotel is a very nice hotel. My room was big and cozy! I managed to go for the cocktail then went for dinner with my boss at the Thai restaurant in the hotel. And I even managed to dig some gossips out of him!
The conference the next day was very tiring. But after the conference I went for a luxurious spa on my boss' account! Actually it was because in the morning he said we would go for dinner together but halfway through the conference somebody asked him to go for dinner with the regulators, so he asked whether I could settle my own dinner, to which I told him I would find my own programme. He said I could go for massage on his account.
After my aromatherapy massage, I went back to my room and felt hungry, so I called for room service from the Italian restaurant, Biscotti, which I heard was one of the best Italian restaurants around. I had the lamb ragout which was very good. After dinner I felt sleepy and went to sleep. Was actually supposed to go out for drinks with some people but was too tired.
The next day, PC and I went for another massage. This time according to him, it's a place for the mass market, so he said for me it's like downgrading. I felt it was true after the 2nd massage - even the bed felt hard! After our massage, we went to Siam Paragon. Only had half an hour to shop!
After that, we went back to the hotel, checked out and had lunch at the Thai restaurant again. He asked for this fried chilli padi thing which he said was very hot. I told him he could ask them to pack those for him which he did. He said I could pass them to JC and I did. JC loved them.
Anyway, they couldn't find my luggage after I reached Singapore. What a way to end the trip. Luckily the next morning they called to say they had found my luggage and sent it over. This was really an eventful trip.
Oh, and everybody still thinks I'm Thai. All the locals tried to speak to me in Thai. My masseuse also said I really look Thai. This proves Omar's point that I look pan-Asian.
